Women would rather date an ‘average-looking’ man than someone who’s 10/10

GUYS, it’s time to step away from the mirror and put down the hair gel because if you’re looking for love, the more average-looking you are the better.

That’s according to a new poll by YouGov, which found 26 per cent of women say their dream man would rate 5/10 on the attractiveness front.

Surprisingly, that was the top choice. Next came men who rate 7/10 on the good looking scale, with 21 per cent of women saying that’s what they go for.

Only seven per cent of women hope to nab a guy who’s a solid 10/10.

Unfortunately for the ladies, the same is not true in reverse.

The biggest group of guys surveyed, polling 22 per cent, cited a woman who comes in an 8/10 on the attractiveness scale as their dream.

A large portion are looking for perfection too, with 15 per cent of the men questioned saying they’d settle for nothing less than a woman who is 10/10.

It’s suggested women go for average-looking men so they don’t have to worry about them being approached by other ladies.

Lucy Beresford, sex and relationships expert for LBC, told The Telegraph: “For women, physical attractiveness is not the only deal, there’s also a slight anxiety that if your male partner is unbelievably good looking, you’d have to deal with loads of other woman coming on to him.”

Guys apparently see their other half as a reflection of themselves, or as a “trophy” which shows how hot they are.

Other notable results from the far-reaching “hotness” survey were that one in three Brits think they’re better looking than average, while over half think their partner is more attractive than them.

If you’re on the lookout for a new partner, best steer clear of these cheesy Tinder chat-up lines.

Plus here’s how to make sure you don’t fall foul of the latest hellish dating trend – submarining.
