ALEX HALES has been banned indefinitely from the England cricket team, along with team-mate Ben Stokes.
Stokes was seen throwing numerous punches during a shocking street brawl in Bristol in the early hours of Monday morning.
Who is Alex Hales?
Alex Hales was born in Hillingdon and rose to national prominence when he hit 55 off an over (three no-balls, eight sixes, one four) in a T20 Idol game at Lords, despite being registered as a fast bowler.
A move to Nottinghamshire soon followed in 2008, with 2017 interestingly being the opener’s best season with the county.
Hales produced one of the all-time great county cricket displays with the Outlaws, hitting 187 to down Surrey in the One-Day Cup final.
He then helped Notts to the domestic double as they beat Birmingham Bears in the T20 Blast final.
With England, Hales holds the record for highest ever score by an England ODI batsman.
He hit an unbeaten 171 against Pakistan on his home ground, Trent Bridge, in 2016.
Why has Alex Hales been banned from the England team?
The ECB have not gone into specifics as to why Hales has joined Ben Stokes in being suspended indefinitely.
A statement from English cricket’s governing body simply said: “Ben Stokes and Alex Hales will not be considered for selection for England international matches until further notice.
“Each remains on full pay pending further ECB investigation and the on going Police investigation into an incident in Bristol in the early hours of Monday 25 September.
“Andrew Strauss, Director of England Cricket, will today refer the internal disciplinary procedure for these two players to the Cricket Discipline Commission, chaired by Tim O’Gorman.
“These decisions, fully supported by ECB Chairman Colin Graves, were made following the release of footage viewed by ECB for the first time on Wednesday night.”
Has Alex Hales been arrested following the street brawl in Bristol?
Alex Hales accompanied Ben Stokes voluntarily to the police station to give evidence following the fight.
Hales has not been arrested by Somerset and Avon police in relation to the incident.
