Why Charlotte’s kids won’t get titles

Princess Charlotte’s future kids are unlikely to get a royal title, but her brother Prince George’s will.

She won’t be the first exception. Princess Anne’s kids Zara Tindall and Peter Phillips don’t have HRH status — whereas Prince Andrew’s daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie, do.

When it comes to British royalty, there are only two ways to become a princess — you either have to marry a prince, or to be the daughter of one, reports The Sun.

So Kate Middleton is a princess because she married Prince William — whereas Charlotte inherited the title as his daughter.

But, while a prince’s child automatically receives the title, a princess’ kids do not.

Lucy Hume, associate director of etiquette experts Debrett’s, told Town & Country: “Royal titles are inherited through sons, so if Princess Charlotte has children they would not automatically inherit the titles HRH, Prince, or Princess.”

But that doesn’t mean there aren’t ever exceptions.

“The monarch may offer to bestow a royal title upon his or her daughter’s children,” Lucy added.

“For Peter and Zara Phillips, the Queen offered to give them a royal title when they were born, but Princess Anne and Captain Phillips opted to decline this offer.”

In related news, this is why Prince Harry and Meghan Markle hold hands — but Kate and Wills won’t.

And this is the latest on the Cambridge’s third royal baby, including baby name rumours and birth date predictions.
