THE GREAT British Bake Off is back on our screens from its new home on Channel 4.
In with this year’s batch of hopefuls is Steven Carter-Bailey, a Hertfordshire cake-whizz who takes tips from his mum and was named star baker in the first two weeks. Here’s what we know about Steven.
Who is Steven Carter-Bailey and what does he do?
All we know about elusive Steven is that he has “a background in marketing” but whether that means he currently or formerly worked in marketing remains to be discovered.
The competent chef also managed to lose an impressive five stone thanks to his own home-cooking.
What does Steven Carter-Bailey like to bake?
Steven’s passion is in the kitchen and he takes inspirations from his mum, Judi, who is his cooking mentor.
He cooks and bakes all of his own food and appears to have a talent for whimsical cakes, with weird and wonderful creations filling his Instagram page.
Steven has made SpongeBob SquarePants, a plant pot and a Channel handbag all from sponge and icing as well as a few very elaborate wedding cakes.
He claims he likes putting a twist on recipes from his mum’s old cookbooks.

When is Great British Bake Off on Channel Four?
The new series of The Great British Bake Off started on August 29 at 8pm and continues to air every week on Tuesday at 8pm on Channel 4.
The Bake Off was bought by Channel 4 last year amid much controversy, meaning the popular cooking contest moved from the BBC.
The Paul Hollywood will now be joined on the judging panel by Great British Menu judge Prue Leith.
While the show will now be presented by Sandi Toksvig and funny man Noel Fielding.
