How is Marilou Danley connected to the Las Vegas shooting?

Danley was revealed by authorities as a “person of interest”.

She is the girlfriend of Stephen Paddock, who opened fire on crowds at the Route 91 country music festival in Vegas on Sunday night.

Paddock holed himself up on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel on the strip with a cache of 23 weapons and sprayed hundreds of bullets in the deadliest mass shooting in American history.

He had wired £75,000 to Danley in the Philippines last week, authorities in Manila said on Wednesday, citing the FBI.

The former casino worker travelled to the Philippines through Hong Kong on September 25.

Danley insisted she had no idea of the slaughter he was plotting when he sent her abroad to see her family and said she had instead thought the high-stakes gambler had wired the cash to her as a way of breaking up.

She said: “A little more than two weeks ago, Stephen said he found a cheap ticket for me to the Philippines and that he wanted me to take a trip to see my family.

“Like all Filipinos abroad, I was excited to go home and see family and friends. While there, he wired me money which he said was for me to buy a house for me and my family.

“I was grateful, but honestly I was worried that first, the unexpected trip home and then the money, was a way of breaking up with me.”

She added: “It never occurred to me in any way whatsoever that he was planning violence against anyone.

“I have not made a statement until now because I am cooperating with the authorities.

“And I voluntarily flew back to America because I knew that the FBI and Las Vegas police department wanted to talk to me – and I wanted to talk to them.

“I will cooperate fully with their investigation, and anything I can do to help ease suffering or help in any way, I will do.”

They lived together in Mr Paddock’s property in Babbling Brook Court, a two-bedroom home worth $396,000 (£297,554).

Sherriff Joseph Lombardo said at a press conference shortly after the atrocity: “She was not with him [Paddock] when he checked in.

“We have discovered he was utilising some of her identification.

“We have had a conversation with her and we believe her at this time not to be involved., Obviously that investigation will continue.”

Who was Stephen Paddock?

Stephen Paddock was identified by police as the gunman who killed at least 59 people at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas.

The 64-year-old, of Mesquite, Nevada, fired at festival-goers from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort Casino.

Paddock was a retired accountant and didn’t have a criminal record. He liked to fly small aircraft and also had a hunting licence.

His brother revealed he was also a multi-millionaire property developer.

But while the shooter himself had no criminal background, the same reportedly cannot be said for all his family.

Paddock’s father was Benjamin Hoskins Paddock, a serial bank robber.

Cops admitted they were not yet sure of the Vegas gunman’s motives, with Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo telling reporters: “We have no idea what his belief system was – I can’t get into the mind of a psychopath.”

They later announced the mass-murderer made several large gambling transactions in recent weeks, according to NBC.

It is not clear if the transactions were losses or wins, but officials are quoted as saying they stretched into the tens of thousands.

He is believed to have killed himself as armed police closed in and stormed the hotel room from which he committed the deadliest shooting in modern US history.

Lombardo said that police has located a number of firearms in the hotel room used for the shooting.

Hundreds of people were forced to dive for cover after gunfire erupted during a set at the open-air Route 91 Harvest Festival.

At least 59 people have died and more than 515 were injured as the gunman sprayed bullets into the crowds from a hotel balcony.

The Las Vegas strip was put on lockdown as cops raced to the scene.

The shooting took place at around 22:30 (05:30 GMT).

Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department asked people to avoid the south end of the Strip, saying parts had been shut down as they investigated reports of an active shooter.

All flights in and out of Las Vegas were cancelled following the horror shooting.

Travellers were left in limbo as services into McCarran Airport were either cancelled or diverted to other airports in the US and Canada.
