Who is Lucy Fallon? Bethany Platt actress at the centre of Coronation Street grooming storyline

LUCY Fallon has been involved in one of Coronation Street’s most shocking storylines to date as sex ring victim Bethany Platt.

The actress’s performance has been a major talking point among viewers, which has seen her character repeatedly abused by boyfriend Nathan Curtis and his friends.

When did Lucy Fallon join Coronation Street?

Lucy almost missed out on the role of tearaway teen Bethany and was called in at the last minute.

That’s because an older actress called Katie Redford had lied about her age, claiming she was 19 when she was in fact 25, and bagged the part, before being found out by soap bosses.

Lancashire lass Lucy was then called in to take the role in 2015, continuing on from the work of three child actors, who played Bethany between 2000 and 2007. She was subsequently nominated for Best Newcomer at the 2015 Inside Soap Awards.

What has happened to Bethany Platt so far?

Bethany has been dating a much older man, Nathan, who is grooming her for sex with other men.

Scenes have shown Bethany losing her virginity to Nathan, played by Christopher Harper, before being raped by his sick associate Neil.

The storyline is coming to ahead as Nathan stands trial.

As soon as Bethany had arrived in Weatherfield she was taking diet pills as well as falling for her mum’s boyfriend Gary and newcomer Callum.

Bethany’s father is Sarah’s classmate Neil, who impregnated her when they were both just 12, and later died in a car crash.

What has Lucy said about the storyline?

Lucy has admitted she broke down in tears while hearing a real-life grooming story, when she did some work with the NSPCC.

She told the Daily Star’s TV Life magazine: “The NSPCC came to talk to us with a girl called Lucy who’d been groomed and who told us her story.

“Hearing that was horrific. It left me in tears. It helped me to understand how people get into these situations.”

Lucy and her cast mates did work with the NSPCC and other child protection charities before performing the scenes.

They all agree the storyline portrays an important issue that young people ought to be more aware of.

She later admitted that she would like to see the story end with the sicko in prison.

“I would like to see him in prison,” the actress told The Sun Online.

“I think it’s quite rare that cases go to court,” she added going on to speak about the victim of grooming and sexual abuse, Lucie, who helped Lucy with her research into Bethany’s plight.

She added: “Lucie’s case didn’t even get to court. The person who did it to her is still living in her area now.

“I think it’s important that we show people that if it’s happening to somebody who’s now watching it that he does go to prison otherwise they’ll be like, ‘Oh well there’s no point in me telling anyone that this is happening to me because nothing will come of it’.”

What else has Lucy Fallon done?

Bethany is Lucy’s first major role, and it’s fair to say she’s been thrown in the deep end with a storyline that makes her “skin crawl”.

At the time she was cast, Blackpool native Lucy said: “Walking onto the set was surreal and nerve-wracking.

“But everyone has been really welcoming and I am thrilled to have been given this great opportunity.”

Is Lucy Fallon single?

Lucy is very attached to her boyfriend Tom Leech, who she’s been seeing for over a year and regularly posts Instagram pics of.

She’s even revealed her plan is to “get married and have babies” with her 26-year-old beau.

They live together and have pets, so many that Tom has described their house as “a zoo” on Twitter.

The pair recently took a trip to Disneyland together but are more often found at music festivals, if not at home watching wrestling or Geordie Shore.
