LARRY Lamb faced the horrors of the jungle as a contestant in the 2016 series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! and the turbulent comings and goings on in Albert Square.
He more recently took the lead in an all-star cast in The Hatton Garden Job, based on the biggest burglary in English legal history, and is back with Britain By Bike alongside his son George. Here’s his colourful story.
Who is Larry Lamb?
Larry was born Lawrence Douglas Lamb on October 1, 1947, in Edmonton, north London to Jessie and Ronald Lamb, the eldest of four children.
He was educated at Edmonton County School and then went to work in the oil industry in Libya and Canada.
He also attended the St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
Is Larry Lamb married?
Larry married Anita Wisebey in London when he was just 21 following a whirlwind romance and he later admitted he married her because she got pregnant.
The marriage crumbled though and Larry moved abroad and while in Germany working as a car salesman, he met and married American nurse Jacquie Parris but they were soon divorced.
In 1975 he dated Lady Colin Campbell, who took part in the I’m A Celeb in 2015, and their romance lasted about six months.
In 1979 Larry married Irish singer Linda Martin, who was to become his third wife. They divorced in 1996.
The same year, Larry met actress Clare Burt, who is best known for her appearances on The Bill, but they split in 2015 and he is now dating French artist Marie Victorine.
How many children does he have?
Larry has four children, the eldest, Vanessa was born in 1969 but he has only met her once, and that was when she was seven months old.
He revealed that he thinks about her a lot but “me and her mum broke up and then she was adopted by her mum’s new husband, so I never had anything to do with her,” something which he said he regrets.
He has son, George Lamb, a TV and radio presenter, from his marriage to Linda, who was born in 1979, and two daughters from his marriage to Clare, Eloise, an actress, was born in 1999, and Eva Mathilde was born in 2003.
Larry and George have teamed up for new show, Turkey: A to B.
How did Larry get into acting and what were his first roles?
While he was studying in Canada, he developed an interest in acting and performed at Canada’s Stratford Festival in 1975.
When he returned to the UK, he landed the role of chief engineer Matt Taylor on the North Sea ferry-based soap opera Triangle alongside Kate O’Mara from 1981 to 1983.
He then went to play roles in TV dramas such as The Professionals, Minder, Lovejoy, A Touch of Frost, Taggart, Casualty and The Bill.
What is Larry best known for?
Larry became a household name when he starred as Mick Shipman in the popular sitcom Gavin and Stacey from 2007 to 2010.
During that time, he joined the cast of EastEnders as Ronnie and Roxy’s father Archie Mitchell from 2008 to April 2009 but returned that summer before being killed off in the Christmas episodes that year. He then joined the cast of the BBC comedy-drama New Tricks, taking over from Dennis Waterman.
