GRITTY BBC crime thriller Rellik brings together a host of stars from the small screen, from a Game Of Thrones actor to a Peep Show comedian.
Here’s what we know about the famous faces who will help tell the tale of a serial killer’s journey in the six-part series.
Who has joined the cast of Rellik?
Richard Dormer (Gabriel Markham)
Richard Dormer will be taking on the role of leading man in the new series.
He is most known for his role in Game of Thrones as Lord Beric Dondarrion, but has also been part of the cast on Sky One’s Fortitude.
The 47-year-old has previously starred alongside Daniel Radcliffe in TV movie My Boy Jack, as well as films including Mrs Henderson Presents and The Escapist.
Jodi Balfour (Elaine)
Jodi is a South African actress who has previously been part of the case in TV series’ Bomb Girls, Quarry and The Best Laid Plans.
This film could potentially be her breakout role as she becomes the quriky and hard-working Elaine.
Talking of her role, Jodi told The Express: “Elaine and Gabriel are enmeshed in an intense love affair. He’s obviously married and has family, but is really the centre of her universe, and I think she’s starting to feel him pull away, to want to retreat back to his family life.
“So we meet her as a detective trying to do her job to the best of her ability, really quite anxious to figure out who the killer is, and also as a woman obsessed and a woman scorned, all wrapped up in one.”
Rosalind Eleazar (Christine)
Most recently, Rosalind has stared alongside Robbie Coltrane and Julie Walters in the hard-hitting drama, National Treasure.
The story followed a fictional story of a famous TV star being accused of rape – and was loosely based on the Jimmy Saville and Rolf Harris scandals.
She is also set to star in an upcoming Hulu series, Harlots – which depicts life inside a brothel in 18th century London.
Paterson Joseph (Isaac)
Paterson Joseph has spanned over 27 years – causing him to become a famed cult face on UK TV screens.
Playing the obscenely arrogant Alan Johnson in the Channel 4 comedy Peep Show, Paterson has also starred in series including You Me and the Apocolypse and Babylon.
In the early 2000s he also played Olivia Colman’s love interest Lyndon Jones in the quirky hospital sitcom Green Wing.
For film roles, Paterson had roles in Charlize Theron led Aeon Flux, and Leonardo DiCaprio film The Beach.
Paul Rhys (Patrick)
This Welsh actor has a series of acclaimed TV shows and films under his belt in a career that started back in 1986.
During that time, he has taken on period pieces, comedies and dramas – including playing Sydney Chaplin in the 1992 biopic of Charlie Chaplin.
He also had a recurring role in Being Human – playing Ivan, one of the ‘old ones’, in the UK version of the show, and most recently starred in TV drama Victoria.
Ray Stevenson (Detective Superintendant Ed Benton)
Fans of historical TV drama Rome will recognise Ray from the action in the Colosseum.
This time around, he will take on the role of top cop Ed Benton and hit the ground running in the first episode of Rellik.
Viewers will immediately get a glimpse of his strained relationship with Gabriel in the opening scenes.
Michael Shaeffer (Steven)
Michael has most recently made an appearance in the dystopian World War II drama, SS-GB.
He also landed a part in Tom Hardy’s drama Taboo for the Beeb as well this year and was previously in The Waldo Moment episode of cult classic Black Mirror.
In film, he took on the role of General Corssin in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story in late 201, and was also part of the cast for Anna Karenina and 2005’s Kingdom of Heaven.
What is Rellik about and when is it on TV?
Rellik – killer spelled backwards – tells the story of a serial killer in reverse.
Starting from when the killer is caught, the thriller will go backwards in time to the very beginning of his killing spree.
Gabriel Markham – a disfigured detective – is propelled in an obsessive hunt for the serial killer who literally left a mark on him both physically and mentally.
Elaine, Gabriel’s partner, is drawn into the investigation after being bright but eager to please.
Rellik started on September 11 on BBC One at 9pm and continues for six weeks.
