THE Great British Bake Off has returned for a new series and a new group of hopeful bakers have their whisks and piping bags at the ready, looking to make their mark in the kitchen.
Among the batch is biomedical scientist Chuen-Yan “Yan”, who is hoping to bake her way into viewer’s hearts. But what else do we know about her?
Who is Yan and what does she do?
Hong Kong-born Yan, 46, from north London, moved to the UK with her family, which included brother Ken, when she was two.
The biomedical scientist now has another brother Yee, and a sister called Ying.
She started to bake seriously 10 years ago when she found herself in between 24-hour shifts, working as a molecular biologist for the NHS.
Her Chinese upbringing meant she would typically steam rather than bake, and use the oven as storage space, but she has since developed a passion for it.
Yan currently working as a laboratory research scientist for The Francis Crock Institute and lives in north London with her wife, Marian and cat Kacey.
What is Yan’s social media?
Currently Yan doesn’t appear to be active on Instagram and Twitter but this could change throughout the show.
