Who is Chizzy Akudolu? Strictly Come Dancing 2017 star voted off in week 2 and Holby City actress

Holby City star Chizzy Akudolu swapped the hospital floor for the Strictly dance floor and competed in the 2017 series.

She was the first celebrity to leave the competition, losing out in the dance off to Brian Conley. The actress has been on dozens of hit series and soaps, but just what do we know about her? Here’s the lowdown…

Who is Chizzy Akudolo, how old is she and what is her background?

Chizzy Akudolu is an actress, comedian and TV star, best-known for her role as Mo Effanga in hospital-set soap Holby City.

The 43-year-old began her career in the early noughties after winning BBC comedy contest The Urban Sketch Showcase.

In 2004 she bagged parts in Sean Lock’s sitcom 15 Storeys High and soap EastEnders.

Over the next few years she took roles in shows such as Green Wing, Dead Set, Roman’s Empire, The Inbetweeners, Twenty Twelve and the movie In The Loop.

She also performed on CBBC shows Gigglebiz, and Nuzzle & Scratch.

In 2012 she won a regular part in hit BBC One’s Holby City as Mo, a role which she seemed born to play – as her mother was a midwife.

Chizzy left Holby in the spring of 2017, and said of her exit: “It feels good to be honest with you.

“I’ve left on such a high, so I don’t feel sad. I miss Holby and I miss the people a lot, but I’m excited for the future.”

During her time at Holby, nurse Mo developed a relationship with Mr T, played by Ben Hull, and they had a baby together called Hector.

What else do we know about Chizzy?

Chizzy could have had the edge on Strictly because she came second on Let’s Sing And Dance For Comic Relief earlier this year.

She performed Uptown Funk with two other actors from Casualty.

Proficient in (comedy) dancing, Chizzy is also a brown belt in karate and is an experience calligrapher.
