AJ Pritchard is a fairly new face on the Strictly Come Dancing team, as one of six professional dancers who joined the show in 2016.
But who is the baby-faced dancer and what do we know about him? Read on for AJ’s story.
Who is AJ Pritchard, how old is he and what is his background?
AJ was born Alex Joseph Pritchard in Stoke-on-Trent on November 5 1994.
He started dancing at a young age, learning his craft at his mum and dad Adrian and Debi’s dance school, Pritchard’s Dance and Fitness Academy in Cheshire.
He began to dance professionally from the age of 12.
However, AJ didn’t actually set out to be a dancer as he was more into extreme sports, even from a young age.
Snowboarding and mountainboarding were his passion but when he broke his arm while out on the slopes, he reconsidered his future career and discovered he had a natural talent for dancing.
His parents chose a partner for him from their dance school and that was Chloe Hewitt.
The pair of them went on to represent England in competitions around the world.
In 2013, AJ and Chloe appeared on the seventh series of ITV talent show Britain’s Got Talent and wowed the judges and audience alike with their audition.
They made it as far as the fourth semi-final but were eliminated.
In 2015, they won the British Open Youth Latin Champions, that same year they also became European Youth Latin Champions.
Over their nine-year competitive career they have set records by becoming the National Youth Latin Champions for three years in a row from 2012 – 2014.
Then at the tender age of 22, after ten years in the world of dance, AJ joined the roster of Strictly Come Dancing professionals.
He and Chloe joined the show in 2016, and for his first time on the programme he was paired with gymnast Chloe Frangapane.
They came fourth, just missing out on the final.
