What time is Gogglebox on Channel 4?

Gogglebox has returned to Channel 4 for its tenth series and airs TONIGHT (Friday, October 6) at 9pm.

Airing once a week, each of the episodes lasts an hour – and fans can expect at least 15 episodes as that’s how many there were in series nine.

What is the premise of Gogglebox?

The premise of Gogglebox is simple – turn the camera on TV viewers to see how they react to what they’re watching.

Cameras are placed in a number of different living rooms across the UK to record what happens as families, couples and friends watch the biggest shows of the week.

The people featured in the show – usually discovered by Channel 4 bosses – are from a wide variety of backgrounds and have different tastes.

When the show began, unknowns like Sandi Bogle, Scarlett Moffatt and couple Dom and Steph Parker won the hearts of viewers – and have now made careers from their appearances.

The show has proved a huge hit with viewers, though stats show that the show’s popularity is beginning to wane after peaking at just under 5 million viewers on average in 2015.

In the last year, the show has spawned spin-offs Gogglesprogs, which is like the main show but with kids, and Vlogglebox, which swaps TV for internet videos.

When did Gogglebox start and who’s been on it?

Gogglebox began in March 2013 and won a Bafta a year later, as well as an National Television Awards in 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The groups who have featured on it from series one until now are Leon and June Bernicoff, the Tappers, the Michaels, the Siddiquis and the duo Christopher and Stephen.

Over the years other families and characters have joined.

Notable among them are the Gilbey family, including son George who went on Celebrity Big Brother – and Steph and Dom Parker, the posh couple who went on to spend time with Nigel Farage, before Dom took part in The Jump.

A lot of the stars of Gogglebox have now left, including Sandi Bogle and Sandra Martin, though the most controversial moment was when Scarlett Moffatt left to take part in I’m A Celeb and pursue a career in telly.

The show was narrated by Royle Family actress Caroline Aherne but after her death in July 2016, her friend Craig Cash took over permanently.
