FORMER X Factor winner James Arthur has been through all the highs and lows of fame in his short career – and now he’s back on top with his first arena tour on the way.
If you’ve been struggling to keep up, here’s the background on the chart-topping Middlesbrough lad…
Who is James Arthur and where is he from?
James Arthur was born on 2 March 1988 in the north-east town of Middlesbrough.
He was born to an English mother named Shirley Ashworth and Scottish father Neil Arthur.
James embarked on a music career from a young age, writing and recording songs both as a solo artist and in bands in his teens.
Before trying out for X Factor, he also tried his hand on The Voice – but his audition never even aired.
During that time, he shared music on SoundCloud and YouTube.
The star publicly talks about his battle with anxiety and depression and has been an supporter of World Mental Health Day.
Speaking to Dan Wootton, he revealed: “I was having panic attacks. When I had my first panic attack I believed that it was a heart attack.
“I was like, ‘I’m dying here. Someone get me a doctor. It’s over’.
“I masked it all with self-medicating and just trying to bury it instead of confronting it. I just dug myself a hole. To the point where I had a humongous breakdown.”
His issues prompted him to take some time away from the spotlight before returning in 2016.
When did James Arthur win The X Factor?

Footage shows attacker Christopher John Revell, 31, raise his arm before striking the singer while his back is turned.
The singer revealed he feared his musical career could be affected after he was hit over the head with the glass in a “totally unprovoked attack” during a night out with friends.

In a first, James was resigned to SyCo Records after he had cleaned up his act.
He released the single Say you Won’t Let Go in September 2016 and it rocketed to the top of the UK music charts – as well as number 27 in the American Billboard Hot 100 chart.
His subsequent album, Back From The Edge, was released in October 2016 and also topped the charts – confirming his fans had welcomed him back to the spotlight.
