A source quoted by The Mirror said: “She was not on a suicide watch and was living normally.

“An officer checked her but got no response, entered the cell and found her.”

Medics tried to revive her but she was declared dead at 5.45am.

A Prison Service spokesperson told Sun Online: “HMP Parkhurst prisoner Jade Eatough died in custody on Saturday 19 August 2017.

“As with all deaths in custody there will be an independent investigation by the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman.”

The lag, formerly known as Martin, was reportedly taking hormone replacements as the first stage of gender reassignment.

She was living as a woman but is not believed to have had gender reassignment surgery.

Eatough was jailed for life in 2006 after two terrifying sex attacks 90 minutes apart.

The first victim, 19, fought her attacker off after she was stalked through the streets walking home from a nightclub.

Less than two hours later Eatough found another girl aged 15.

The fiend held a knife to the girl’s throat and forced her to walk to a deserted area before ordering her to strip off and raping her.

Judge Edward Slinger said Eatough had “terrified and humiliated” the schoolgirl and cops blasted the rapist’s lack of remorse.

Eatough is not the first transgender prisoner to kill herself in a male prison in recent years.

Vikki Thompson, 21, was also found hanged in her cell at Leeds Prison in November 2015.

She repeatedly told prison and court escort staff that she would be “carried out in a box”, a coroner was told.

And Eddie Latham, known as Joanne Marie Latham, killed herself in similar circumstances at all-male HMP Woodhill in Milton Keynes, Bucks, the same month.

The 38-year-old barricaded herself in her cell before slashing her arm with a makeshift knife made of shattered glass from a broken TV set before hanging herself.
