ELLIOTT Wright claims weddings should not be screened on TV – despite accepting a lucrative offer from ITVBe to make a series about his nuptials.
The former Towie star, 35, was convinced by show bosses to have cameras follow him and new wife Sadie at their wedding this weekend as they agreed to spend “half a million” on their big day.
In an exclusive interview he said: “A wedding is a very private thing and a special day and there was no way I wanted any sort of reality TV there.
“Originally it was a nonstarter – I don’t need to do a wedding show. I had my own show and I was doing stuff on ITV. When I was first approached I said no.
“But then I spoke to Sadie about it and at the end of the day you have a television company that want to spend half a million on your wedding and a lot of people film their actual wedding day.
“It hasn’t added anymore pressure and in twenty years’ time when our kids are getting married we can show them what happened to us.
“You will only see 40 minutes but we have hours of footage that we will have for the rest of our lives.”
Elliott quit Towie and moved to Marbella in 2015, where he met new wife Sadie.
And he doesn’t talk fondly about his time on the reality show, where his relationship with ex-girlfriend Chloe Sims was played out on screen.
He said: “Towie wasn’t constructive and I wanted to do a show that was raw and real. The show I did was more an observational documentary. It felt completely different.
“I’ve always tried to be real on camera and what you see is what you get and if you don’t like me then that’s that.
“The TV helps my businesses and once we’ve done this we will film again.”
Elliott, whose former co-star Sam Faiers launched her own series The Baby Diaries, says he is hoping to follow in her footsteps when Sadie and him have children.
She said: “If Sadie and I have kids then we will definitely do a baby diaries but I always let ITV come to me.”
Elliott and Sadie The Wedding is a two-part special on ITVBe on Wednesday 11th & Wednesday 18th October at 9pm
