THE X Factor’s Sharon Osbourne was left in stunned “shock” and pleaded for Divine Intervention as she was handed her least preferred category – The Girls – to mentor in the next stage of the ITV show.

Tonight’s episode rounded off with the big reveal as the budding chart stars found out which judge would lead them in the next round.

During the tense build-up, host Dermot O’Leary quizzed the outspoken red-head about her preferences, and she admitted: “As long as I don’t get the girls I will be happy.

“I’m really excited because I have no idea what I am going to get.”

Just before entering the room crammed with young hopefuls she reinforced the constants she didn’t want and added: “They are too young and I’m too upfront.

“I don’t want to hurt anyone.”

Standing among the throngs of mainly teenagers her nightmare was revealed – yet the ladies were in sheer delight.

The Osbournes TV star squealed: “Oh Lord above help me!”

Later, she had reassurance from Dermot who told her she was going to make it work.

Sharon, 64, replied: “Of course I want to nurture, I want to be behind these girls.

“I will do whatever I have to do to be a good mentor.

“But was it my first choice? No.”

Meanwhile in typical Louis Walsh style, the cheeky Irish chap claimed he “had a winner” by being chosen to mentor the Boys.

Earlier, he confessed he would “love” the groups, but that category was dished out to the show’s head hioncho Simon Cowell.

Offering some words of advice, he told the huge bunch: “Just be yourselves – lets just win The X Factor shall we?”

Speaking directly to the camera, he continued: “I’m not saying this is the easiest category but that doesn’t bother me.

“It’s where you see potential, energy, enthusiasm, talent. I’m happy.”

Another judge with a beaming grin on their face was Nicole Scherzinger, who was selected to look after the Overs.

As she joined her dream category she gushed: “lets do this” before quizzing “Are you guys alright with me?”

Rather predictably, the response was a reassuring yes.

Earlier, the Pussycat doll mused: “I don’t know if there is a stronger category, but I feel like the category I would work well with is the overs.

“I think I would work really well with the overs, and I have never had the overs.”
