When Will decided not to take through his contestant Nandi, he pressured Tom, even telling the star that he would meditate to make him “steal”.
Will ran behind Tom’s chair as Jennifer got The Voice crowd singing a rendition of “Tom”.
Finally succumbing to the pressure, Tom whacked his button and huffed: “Oh fine!”
As the crowd cheered, host Emma Willis laughed: “It worked! The Tomming worked!”
Nandi gushed: “I’m just so excited to work with you!”
Tom later explained: “I didn’t know whether I was going to hit the button or not.
“But everybody convinced me that I should. So I used my steal on Nandi because she is unique.”
Nandi added: “This is insane. I started out on Team Will and now I’m on Team Tom.
However, viewers were not happy, with one tweeting: “Poor Tom was forced into that. #TheVoiceUK.”
“Tom was blatantly pressured into that decision and I think he made the wrong one…. #TheVoiceUK,” posted another.
A third said: “Annoys me when they push the judges into stealing. Just let them decide for themselves. @thevoiceuk #TheVoiceUK.”
“Bad choice Tom you shouldn’t give in to peer pressure he won’t do it for you #TheVoiceUK #thevoice,” added another.
A fifth wrote: “So basically Tom was forced into that… #thevoiceuk,” as another added: “Kinda feel they pressured Tom into stealing her #TheVoiceUK.”
One fan raged: “Bit unfair to peer pressure Tom into stealing when he clearly didn’t have any wish to do so #TheVoiceUK.”
Tom took to Twitter himself, posting: “From #TeamWill to #TeamTom! Welcoming my STEAL, the sweet soulful vocals of @ChantelleNandi. Too good to let you go! I am looking forward to working with you! #TheVoiceUK.”
Other viewers believed it was the right decision, with one tweeting: “Good steal @RealSirTomJones #TheVoiceUK.”
“#TheVoiceUK Tom, you made the right decision, stealing Nandi,” posted another.
