Strictly Come Dancing star Simon Rimmer reveals his kids told him he was committing ‘social suicide’ by signing up to the show

STRICTLY star Simon Rimmer has revealed that he’s teenage children are so convinced that he’s making a mistake being on the show that he’s committing “social suicide”

The Sunday Brunch presenter, who is set to perform a waltz to You’ll Never Walk Alone tonight, reveals that his kids Florence, 19, and Hamish, 14, have gone to great lengths to make sure that they aren’t associated with their pops in case his appearance on the show is a flop.

Speaking to The Mirror, he said: “My daughter just started uni. She got a shoutout on the show last week because she posted she wasn’t using her own surname so people wouldn’t know she was my daughter!”

Making sure that she was as embarrassed as possible, the whole cast gave the uni student a cheer and a wave so she can be caught out from home.

Meanwhile, Hamish also imparted his words of wisdom on his dear old dad, and Simon revealed: “My son said, ‘Thanks Dad, you’ve committed social suicide’, but he’s enjoying it because everyone’s talking about it.”

Thankfully their playful banter is taken on the chin by the dancing amateur.

“I wouldn’t want them to be, ‘Oh darling, is everything OK?’,” he admitted. “It’s better that they’re taking the mickey out of me.”

Simon is in the danger zone on tonight’s show after falling to the bottom of the leaderboard last week.
