Staycation holidays in UK cheapest in Dartmoor | Travel News | Travel

Staycations are a popular choice for Britons for a number of reasons.

Safer, easier to travel to and avoiding the weak pound exchange rate are just some of the reasons behind the increase in 2017 of British-based holidays.

The trend looks to continue into 2018 as more are booking beautiful city breaks around Great Britain.

Worryingly, they may not be as cheap as people may have previously thought.

Despite avoiding the cost of overpriced flights, some destinations in the UK are still extremely expensive to stay in when travelling in high season.

Search engine Holidu reveals some of the priciest places on average for a night in a holiday home, with Edinburgh coming out the worst at £249 per night.

This was closely followed by London (£244), Bath (£181) and Glasgow (£166).

Those who want to choose somewhere cheaper should head to Belfast at just £138 per night or Isle of Skye at just £137.

For the cheapest UK break, Britons should head to Isle of Man with average night stays just £119.

Travelling during low season? Prices are even more adorable if choosing some popular holiday destinations.

Dartmoor National Park is just £82 per night, followed by Devon at £91 and Lake District at £94.

Those heading to Lake District should take advantage of the new flight route launching this summer with Loganair, which flies to Carlise Airport for the first time since 1993.

Holidu founder Johannes Siebers commented: “In general, holiday homes are less affected by price fluctuations than, for instance, flights or hotels.

“Rarely do landlords change prices within the same year. If, however, holiday homes become vacant due to cancellations, the prices also drop significantly at short notice.”

Sadly the UK is still the most expensive region for holiday homes in Europe, meaning that finding cheap flights could make a trip to Spain or France much more affordable still.

But where is the cheapest place for a holiday in Europe?
