When the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie was released it was seen by some Marvel fans as a tongue-in-cheek Star Wars, no doubt gathering some inspiration from the classic space western.
Now it looks like the two could be crossing over, with Luke Skywalker actor Hamill vying for a role in the threequel.
In fact the idea was sparked by a fan on Twitter, writing: “@JamesGunn, could you do me a huge favour and find a role for @HamillHimself in Guardians 3? The awesomeness of it might end me, but I’m willing to risk it. Thanks.”
The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy director said: “I think @HamillHimself lives around the corner from me in Malibu so he can just come over and we can talk about it over a cup of coffee.”
While Hamill jumped the opportunity: “I would be happy to do so, both as a good neighbor & an unemployed actor. All the best, mh.”
Gunn replied: “Haha let’s do it.”
Unsure if he was joking, a sincere Hamill responded: “DM me for my contact info if you’re serious. (& a good neighbor) xoxo, mh.”
Lucky for the Star Wars legend, it appears Gunn was, saying: “Yes I will.”
If all goes to plan, presumably Hamill would have a similar cameo role in a few scenes like Sylvester Stallone in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
The Rambo and Rocky star played Stakar Ogord, a former mentor to Yondu, who Gunn has described as “very important to the Marvel Universe” and is set to appear in future movies.
That or could play himself like David Hasselhoff, who Star-Lord believed was his actual father. After all, the young Peter Quill will be familiar with Star Wars as a child before he was abducted from Earth in the opening scene of the first Guardians movie in 1988.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 will be released in 2020.
