The 57–year-old hit the headlines after Kay was spotted being carried out of the festive bash hosted by Piers Morgan by an unknown gentleman.

The Sky News star had been attending the Good Morning Britain host’s annual do at Scarsdale Tavern when she was spotted exiting the glitzy bash in a an embarrassing way.

But, the newsreader has now broken her silence about the snaps, hitting out at claims reported at the time.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Kay commented: “I wasn’t carried out the party.

“What happened was that a rugby player picked me up. I said, ‘Can you put me down?’

She went on: “He put me down, and I left with the guy who had escorted me to the party.”

The broadcaster attended the event with British Airways pilot Jonny Knowlson.

Kay, who is good friends with Piers, had been rubbing shoulders with stars including Frank and Christine Lampard, Myleene Klass and Charlotte Hawkins.

After the incident with the unidentified male, Kay was pictured making her way out of the party with the 30-year-old.

The duo were also spotted together back in October at London’s Claridge’s hotel.

The journalist, who has insisted in the past that they are just “good friends”, later employed the pilot as part of a team, in order to help her overcome a fear of flying.

In an article published by the Daily Mail last year, the news anchor confessed that she used to “sob uncontrollably” after setting foot on a plane.

Kay, who hosted The Beating Hearts Ball at Guildhall last week, also discussed her involvement with the British Heart Foundation.

Speaking about her passion for the cause, she revealed: “My father sadly died of a heart attack so that sort of cemented my involvement with the organisation and I continue to do what I can.”

Discussing how the Charity’s work makes a difference, she added: “Heart disease is the biggest single killer in the UK still, so we still have an awful lot more work to do.”

For over fifty years the British Heart Foundation has been making breakthroughs that have helped to keep millions of hearts beating. Find out more by visiting www.bhf.org.uk.
