CLIPPING your child into their car seat is an extremely important task for parents and one mother has highlighted a dangerous mistake some could be making.
The mum, known only as Lisa, has pointed out the importance of the car seat handle being in the upright position after her husband was involved in a crash while he was driving less than 30mph.
Her story, which involved a Maxi-Cosi Cabriofix car seat, has been shared on Facebook.
The message reads: “A lady called Lisa contacted me to tell me about her husband’s car crash.
“He blacked out for a few seconds due to a coughing fit and crashed head on into a lorry at about 20-30 mph.
“Luckily he only suffered minor injuries because the lorry saw the crash coming and stopped just before the impact.
“She sent me these pictures to show what happened to their little one’s car seat.
“Luckily the baby wasn’t in the seat at the time.
KEEPING YOUR KIDS SAFE What are the new UK baby car seat laws in 2017, what are the rules and how do I fit a child’s booster seat properly?
It added: “It was installed correctly, but the handle wasn’t up and this is how it ended up after the crash.
“Lisa wanted me to share these pictures to show how important it is to read your car seat’s instructions, because something as simple as the position of the handle can make all the difference to the outcome of a car crash.”
The message then adds how Lisa’s story show what can happen when the handle is in the wrong position.
