CHELMSFORD, Perth and Pontefract provide the backing track to today’s racing but we’re off to Flat racing’s headquarters Newmarket for day 1 of the Cambridgeshire meeting which kicks off at 2.00.
In recent years they’ve messed around so much with the end of season programme at Newmarket that it’s almost impossible to work out what’s coming next.
But don’t be caught napping at 3.45 this afternoon when the Group 3 feature, Tattersalls Stakes, gets underway.
Harry Kane has been bagging braces for fin away from home this season and Spurs fans should join me in backing TIP TWO WIN(9/2) for trainer Roger Teal.
Our selection won well at Doncaster and has more racecourse experience than many of today’s rivals.
At 4.20 the Rose Bowl Listed Stakes can go the way of HIGHER POWER (4/1) for jockey Tom Queally.
Queally is best known for his association with wonderhorse, Frankel, a few years ago when the young Irishman steered the god-given megastar to countless devastating victories.
Higher Power might not be so highly regarded nor anything like as powerful but is still a cut above the others in the field and able to answer our prayers this afternoon.

Whilst we’re here let’s do a bit of racing jargon-busting too: A”nursery” is both a place where small kids pick up germs and where grandparents overpay for end of season bedding plants but in Racing it’s the name of a race reserved for the youngest types of racehorses, two-year-olds.
And in order to run in a nursery, your two-year-old needs to have already raced 3 times and allowed the handicapper (Racing’s exam board) to award it a rating (weight) with which to race.
Today, Newmarket hosts a nursery at 2.35 and the Simon Crisford-trained GLOBAL CONQUEROR (7/2) can bully his way to success.
Crisford was once the brains behind Sheikh Mohammed’ s mega rich Godolphin operation but has since struck out on his own as a trainer and today he can enjoy a reminder of the good days.
