GOOD Morning Britain’s Piers Morgan backtracked on his criticism of co-host Charlotte Hawkins’ Strictly Come Dancing stint as he revealed his MUM gave him a telling off for branding her a flop.
On Monday’s ITV breakfast show, we told of his harsh words on her awkward cha cha cha as he said he was left “horrified” as she forgot her steps on the Saturday night show.
Yet after a few days mulling it over the outspoken journalist, 52, seemed to have done a U-Turn.
This morning, Piers left the news reader gushing with thanks as he admitted: “My mother rings me up last night and says ‘Will you stop being so mean to Charlotte?'”
Recalling his chat with Gabrielle Pughe-Morgan, he added: “She said ‘I really like Charlotte, she’s a really nice person, and all you’re doing is being mean.’
“It’s coming over really badly and you need to be more supportive to your colleague.'”
Charlotte seemed delighted to see Piers eat a rare slice of humble pie.
Meanwhile, co-host Susanna Reid asked why Piers’ mum had never interjected on her behalf, after spending numerous mornings frazzled by his argumentative nature.
He continued: “So apparently I’ve got to be nice to you – any good news from this week’s rehearsals?”

Charlotte replied: “This week I’m feeling really good – we are doing a Tango and it’s Top Gun themed because it’s movie week.”
Piers continued: “Which one are you? That’s going to be fantastic. Is it dangerous then?”
Fortunately for Charlotte, she survived the Dance Off and progressed to Week Three, with Holby City star Chizzy Akudolua booted off.
“I thought you were going to be really good on this.”
Earlier in the show, Piers quizzed: “Are you putting in enough hours of practise?” to which Charlotte looked stunned and swiftly replied: “Yes I’m putting in eight hours after every GMB.”
In his typical no frills manner he added: “You bombed.”
He continued: “I take an interest because you are representing us.
“Had you been drinking a little too much – for Dutch Courage?”
