Photographer captures the charm of Amsterdam’s architecture

Followers of structure and design will discover the Dutch capital of Amsterdam merely irresistible. Set round an intertwining community of synthetic canals, this charming metropolis is house to an entire host of architectural kinds; from Renaissance and Classical to modern Artwork Deco. Probably the most recognisable buildings are in all probability those that line the water’s edge, as photographed right here by Ukrainian-born photographer Christina Kooiker.

Christina has been dwelling within the Netherlands for 4 years now, and is simply as enchanted with its surrounds as she was when she arrived. “I’m in love with Dutch cities and structure, and suppose I’m very fortunate to be right here”, Christina tells Lonely Planet. “Amsterdam is so charming and comfortable, particularly within the evenings. It has the cutest homes, crammed with tiny architectural particulars, which is totally wonderful. I like the distinctive form of the homes, and the way previous and crooked they appear. Amsterdam is certainly greater than only a metropolis – it’s a mind-set!”

Amsterdam’s cultural providing is simply as thrilling; you’ll discover museums and galleries with Vermeer, Rembrandt and Van Gogh originals, whereas the cafés that line its many winding streets are excellent for folks watching. In the case of placing collectively an itinerary, Christina recommends a combination of actions. “Rijksmuseum and Stedelijk are my favorite museums”, she says. “You’ll want to go to the Van Gogh Museum too, when you’re a fan. Then simply discover the town alongside the canals. You can even take a stroll in 9 Straatjes; there are many good shops and cute cafés. Most significantly, don’t waste your time on one thing you don’t discover attention-grabbing, and comply with your interior information!”
