A MAN has been charged with rape and murder after a pensioner was discovered dead in her bungalow.
Tragic Jane Hings, 72, was found in the sleepy village of Fleckney, Leicestershire, on Sunday morning.
Cops originally said her death was unexplained after a post mortem proved inconclusive but launched a murder inquiry after discovering signs of a disturbance.
Craig Keogh, 25, will now appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow charged with murder, burglary and two counts of rape.
Tributes have been paid to Jane after her body was discovered.
Friend and neighbour Amee Niezawitowski told Leicester Mercury: “It’s so sad. Jane was such a kind and thoughtful person.
“She knew I was always there for her if she needed anything, all she had to do was ring me.
“As far as I’m aware, she didn’t have any family. Her mother and father had died and she didn’t have any brothers or sisters.
“She’d had her health problems and kept herself to herself.
“When she was in hospital her dog Paddy stayed in her house and we would take care of him.
“One time we put up a little Christmas tree and took a photograph of him with it and showed it to her in hospital.
“He was pretty much everything to her.”
