KRISTINA Rihanoff has appeared to make a thinly-veiled dig at former love rival Shirley Ballas after revealing she think’s someone else should’ve got her Strictly Come Dancing head judge role.
The professional dancer, who appeared on the BBC dance competition for eight years, admitted that she thinks her former co-star Anton Du Beke would’ve been her choice to replace Len Goodman after he bowed out last series.
Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: “Anton would make a good judge as he is known and loved by the audience and he has the correct personality, if you wish. He is like Bruce.”
The compliment marks high praise from the Russian performer, especially considering icon Bruce Forsyth passed away in August and is remembered fondly by the Strictly team.
But it also appears to be a dig at newcomer Shirley Ballas, who is currently doing her first series in the judges panel after pipping Anton to the post earlier this year for the coveted judge position.
Shirley and Kristina have a complicated history that includes them both having a relationship with Corky Ballas – Shirley’s ex-husband who started dating Kristina shortly after their split.
However, Kristina is now happily married to Ben Cohen with a young daughter, and despite the bad blood is determined to look forward to the future.
She said bluntly: “I don’t have time for that kind of thing. There are so many other things that are much more important in my life.”
Kristina also admitted that she would jump at the chance to be on the judge’s panel if the team wanted her.
She added: “Strictly has been going for 14 years but they do have a strong support from the public. It is probably the only show that you can watch with all your family with the kids and granny.
“It is good entertainment and a bit of glamour. We all need that at this time and age. It is not easy right now. A bit of glamour on TV’s not a bad thing.”
In the meantime, Kristina is rumoured to be taking part in her own reality show with her rugby player beau, Ben.
The show would follow the couple, who met while partners on Strictly in 2013, as they go about their daily life with daughter Milena.
Kristina told the Mirror: “We were asked to do one but I was pregnant. Several production companies were in talks, but there was a lot happening.”
The Russian dancer, who has just turned 40, admitted that she wanted to wait for the right show to come along before she shared her life with the public.
She added: “In my heart and soul I am a dancer. To open the doors on our private life it has to be a very good contract.”
