ITV bosses are already lining up a second series of Liar — focusing on the lead characters’ past.
The drama has pulled in almost five million viewers each week. In it, surgeon Andrew Earlham, played by Ioan Gruffudd, is accused of raping teacher Laura Nielson (Joanne Froggatt).
A TV source said: “Explaining the characters would appeal to fans who’ll be intrigued to see what underlying experiences sparked their actions.
“Bosses feel it would be the best direction to go in.”
Joanne, 37, previously teased that there was a potential “offshoot” story if it proved successful.
The penultimate episode is on Monday.
