Acting bug

Larry got into acting while he was working in the oil industry Nova Scotia, Canada, where he attended St Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.

There he developed his amateur interest, performing at Canada’s Stratford Festival.

He is most famous for his role in Gavin & Stacey, playing Gavin’s father Michael “Mick” Shipman.

Talented offspring

Larry is the father of radio and TV presenter George Lamb, who used to present a daytime show on BBC Radio 6 Music before he replaced Alex Zane as host of reality show Celebrity Scissorhands.

He was the host of Big Brother’s Little Brother until 2011 when it moved to Channel 5.

He has also presented The Bank Job and Football Tonight on BT Sport.

Larry and his son George have worked together on a new show called Turkey: A to B.

Missing daughter

Larry had a daughter called Vanessa when he was 21 but only saw her once as a baby before he and her mother divorced and has had no contact with her since.

While Larry was been in the jungle, it has been revealed that Vanessa is now a teacher in Murcia, Spain and has a daughter.

Smooth criminal

Larry must have a thing about playing a robber.

He starred as Great Train robber Bruce Reynolds in the film Buster alongside Phil Collins and The Hatton Garden Job based on 2015’s Hatton Garden Robbery.

Lamb plays ringleader Brain Reader alongside Downton Abbey’s Matthew Goode, Joely Richardson and Phil Daniels.

Hearing loss

Larry contracted malaria from a mosquito bite in Africa a few years ago which affected the nerve endings in his ear and now has 80 percent hearing loss.

Speaking to the Mirror, he said: “That hospital visit was quite traumatic. After a series of tests, the specialist told me the fever had affected the nerve endings in my ear and damaged them so much that I had 80% hearing loss.

“I have to be very careful I don’t damage my good ear and most of the time I’m fine. But I had a frightening jolt last year when I caught an infection in my left ear.”

Loveable Larry also has an adventurous side, with exotic travels around the world making him a well prepared to tackle jungle critters.

The TV favourite previously told how he loves trips with his presenter son George, 36.

He said in 2013: “George and I try to take a trip every year: this summer we drove through Spain, and for my 60th he took us walking in the Himalayan foothills.”

George said: “He now speaks four or five languages and has seen a lot of the world; he has a real lust for life.”
