EVER received a mysterious message over Instagram from a guy you turned down on Tinder?
Chances are you’re the latest victim of a trend called “Tindstagramming”, news.com.au warns.
This new phenomenon is just one of a myriad of ways to stalk your crush on social media.
It involves direct messaging someone on Instagram after you’ve failed to match with them on Tinder.
And it’s especially popular among those guys and girls who won’t take no for an answer.
This trend has snuck up on some users who have been on Tinder since the dating app was first launched in 2012.
Originally if you didn’t match with someone, that was the end of it.
But in 2015, the app enabled users to link to their Instagram accounts to show off more of their perfectly curated life, giving rejected users another window of opportunity.
Instagram DMs are not private, meaning all you need is someone’s Instagram handle to get in touch with them to have another crack. An Instagram account can also give people you haven’t matched with your full name, and therefore your address.
Tindstagramming is becoming an increasingly common complaint.
Some social media users have voiced concerns over stalker-like behaviour and “nasty messages”.
If Tinder were to get rid of the linked account feature the issue would be solved.
But in the competitive world of dating apps, it’s up to the user to decide how much of their personal life they want to reveal.
