POPE Francis is tipped to land the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize for his teachings on climate change and helping to restore diplomatic relations between the United States and Cuba.
One betting firm has declared the elderly pontiff as the frontrunner for the coveted prize. Here’s his incredible story…
How old is Pope Francis?
Pope Francis is 80 years old and was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on December 17 1936.
When Pope Benedict XVI resigned on February 28 2013, a papal conclave elected Bergoglio as his successor on 13 March.
What is his real name?
He was born Jorge Mario Bergoglio and worked briefly as a chemical technologist and nightclub bouncer before was ordained a Catholic priest in 1969.
He became the Archbishop of Buenos Aires in 1998 and was created a cardinal in 2001 by Pope John Paul II.
Is he on Twitter?
Yes. He joined Twitter in 2012 as @Pontifex.
He uses nine different language accounts to send the same message in Spanish, English, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, French, Latin, German and Arabic.
Pope Francis has over 39.5 million followers at the time of press, just behind US President Donald Trump.
Like Saint Francis of Assisi, let us be transformed by the love of Christ in order to live in simplicity and joy.

How did he get a black eye?
In September the Holy See was left with an Almighty shiner and blood on his white cape after bumping his face during a procession through the Colombian city of Cartagena when the vehicle braked sharply.
TV footage showed him colliding with the glass-and-white frame of the vehicle’s covered platform and then being assisted by his bodyguard.
After being helped from the car, he was seen with a bruise on his cheek and a small dressing on his brow, but still smiling.
