THE X Factor has returned to our screens and that means we’ll get to see Dermot O’Leary’s handsome face a lot until Christmas.
The presenter will bring his own brand of cheeky humour and warmth to proceedings, but what else do we know about him? Here’s the lowdown…
How old is Dermot O’Leary?
Dermot O’Leary was born on May 23, 1973, which makes him 44 years old.
The presenter was born and raised in Colchester, Essex but has dual British and Irish citizenship thanks to his parents, who moved over to England from the Emerald Isle before he was born.
Dermot started his career on BBC Essex before moving into TV, being one of the original presenters of Channel 4’s T4 strand.
He hosted original Big Brother spin-off show, Big Brother’s Little Brother from 2001 until 2008 and took over from Kate Thornton as The X Factor host in 2007.
Who is Dermot’s wife Dee Koppang?
Dermot has been with his wife Dee Koppang since 2002, when they met at a TV production company.
While Dermot moved into presenting, Dee is a producer and a director, and the couple became engaged in New York in November 2011.
They then married in Kent in September 2012 and Dermot has previously expressed a hope they will become parents one day.
He told Fabulous magazine in 2014: “I would like to have kids soon, but I’m only half of the equation”.
What is Dermot’s net worth?
Having worked in TV for a number of years, and fronted The X Factor since 2007 – with just one year away which we’ll pretend didn’t happen – Dermot has built up a fantastic career, which comes with a price tag.
OK! Magazine claims Dermot has a net worth of £12 million, aided by reports he signed an £8 million four year contract to stay with The X Factor last year.
He also has his hugely successful BBC Radio 2 show, which he presents every Saturday morning.
When is the X Factor on?
The X Factor 2017 will continue this weekend 8pm on Saturday and 7.30pm on Sunday on ITV.
The show began, as always, with auditions before moving into the Bootcamp stage as the nationwide hunt to find this year’s winning act begins.
