A HAPLESS thug soon realised he picked the wrong place to rob – after he disturbed a dozen martial arts students in the middle of a training session.

CCTV footage captures the shocking moment a robber darted out of Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy in Baixada Fluminens, Rio de Janeiro as he was chased by burly athletes at around 7.30pm local time on Monday.

The thug is filmed casually strolling through the entrance of the building, regularly used to train keen martial arts students.

After he strikes up a conversation with the receptionist, suddenly the dim-witted robber jumps over the barrier and tries to steal the phone.

The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, claims he was asking for information.

After she ignored his questions because he was acting suspicious, he launched an attack and threatened to kill her.

She said: “He jumped the turnstile and tried to get my phone. I ran but he cornered me at the stairs.

“He pulled my hair as he tried to take the phone out of my hand. But I was screaming at the top of my voice.

“In the next moment, he lifted his shirt and said: ‘I’ll kill you.’ I couldn’t tell whether he had a gun or a knife.

“I was screaming at the top of my voice and luckily the Jiu Jitsu students heard me and saw what was happening.”

But after he threatened to kill the victim who was shouting for help, athletes from inside rushed out to see what was going on, eventually chasing him out

He said: “The thug was so scared he even left his shoes as he escaped.”
