GEORGE GROVES is hoping to fight Chris Eubank Jnr in the semi-finals of the World Super Series – but fears his opponent might not even show up.
Groves is currently in training ahead of his first round fight in the World Boxing Super Series fight against Jamie Cox.
And if he wins that one, as most expect him to, he will face the winner of Eubank Jnr against Yildirim.
But ‘Saint George’ has cast doubt whether Eubank Jnr would even agree to the fight and thinks he could well walk away from the tournament.
Groves said: “They have talked a lot before about taking on big-name opponents and then pulled out.
“Big name boxers have pulled out of bouts before but I will be astonished if that happens when you consider the money at stake as well as my own world title.
“But in another way it wouldn’t be a huge surprise because I am sure they are hoping that I get beat before they have to get in the ring with me.”
Groves thinks it’s not a given that Eubank will even progress into the semi-finals as he squares off against unbeaten Turk Yildirim.

He added: “If I could pick a winner of that bout between Eubank and Yildirim, I’d definitely choose Eubank because I want him next.
“But I don’t think Yildirim will be an easy night for Eubank, it will be a big, big night for him and I hope he comes through because I want him standing in opposite corner in the semi of the World Series.
“Yildirim is the best boxer Eubank has faced. Yildirim is a puncher and more dangerous than anyone on Eubank’ s record.
“There is a real chance Eubank won’t make the next round.”
Groves will fight Cox on Saturday, October 14 at the SSE Arena in London.
Eubank Jnr’s fight against Yildirim is a week earlier on October 7.
