Eurowings has launched its low-cost long-haul services from Munich.

The first long-haul flight took off this Monday heading for Las Vegas.

Passengers can now travel to the Nevada metropolis via two flights a week, on Mondays and Thursdays.

Las Vegas is followed by Cancun in Mexico (from April 19th) and Mauritius (from April 21st) with a weekly flight and Fort Myers (from May 1st) with two flights a week.

The quartet will be supplemented over the summer with a weekly flight to Caribbean destinations such as Varadero (from May 2nd), Punta Cana (from May 4th), Montego Bay (from July 18th) and Puerto Plata (from July 19th).

Flights will also be operated to Windhoek in Namibia (from May 7th) and Bangkok (June 15th) in Thailand.

Customers can now book all destinations at www.eurowings.com or via the Eurowings app on smartphone and tablet.

“With the launch of long-haul in Munich, we’re positioning ourselves yet again as Europe’s fastest growing airline.

“With the consistent and successful expansion of the long-haul offering in Munich we are now serving the high demand of our customers from the catchment area in Southern Germany,” said Oliver Wagner, Eurowings chief commercial officer.

“With a total of 15 new routes and 41 destinations from Munich, we’re doubling our growth and will carry up to two million passengers.”

In the course of this expansion step, three Airbus A330 will be based in Munich.

Michael Kerkloh, chief executive of Flughafen München: “We’re delighted that Eurowings is expanding its commitment at Munich airport and is now offering long-haul flights from Munich for the first time.

“Germany’s largest low-cost airline is thus closing a supply gap at our airport.

“Now travellers from Munich have the opportunity to use low-cost flights for long-distance travel. Given the extremely attractive destinations, I’m sure the new connections will meet with a great response.”
