Golden Balls was paid £5m-a-year for to take part in the ads and appear at a handful of Sky Academy grassroots sports events.

A Sky Sports spokesman said: ‘Sky’s partnership with David Beckham has come to its natural conclusion.

“It was a great relationship with an iconic sportsman and we wish David all the best.”

The ex-Real Madrid man penned the mega-money deal in 2013 when Sky were worried about BT Sport – then the new kids on the block – hoovering up some of TV’s top talents.

Becks was still playing for Ligue 1 side PSG when he signed the deal, at the time of the agreement he said: “Mentors and role models have always been important to me.

“When I was young, they helped me to believe in myself and gave me the confidence to follow my dreams. That’s what Sky Academy will do and I’m excited to be a part of it.
