Cheap flights: Handy trick secures best holiday price | Travel News | Travel

Navigating budget airlines and cheap flight deals is no easy task, especially with an influx of information and resources that are available in this digital age.

Booking a holiday is an exciting experience but is often dampened by pricey tickets and upfront costs.

Fortunately, however, there are tricks of the trade, revealed by experts, to guide holidaymakers through the maze of shady offers.

Learning how to secure the best price for your flight could save hundreds – money that is much better spent upon arrival.

According to one travel expert, Nomadic Matt, there is an easy way to ensure costs are kept low.

Unlike the majority of booking websites, booking as a group does not necessarily save money.

Matt advises searching for flight tickets individually per person, even when travelling in a group of two or more.

He explained: “Airlines always show the highest ticket price in a group of tickets. For example, if you are a family of four and searching for four seats, the airline will find four seats together and show your fare based on the highest ticket price.”

This means that if a row of seats costs £200, £220 and £240 per seat respectively, when booking the entire row as a group, all seats will be charged at the more expensive rate of £240. That’s an extra and unnecessary £60.

Matt goes on to add: “Therefore, always search for tickets as a single person. Afterwards, in the checkout process, you can pick your seats so you and your family are sitting together.”

Although this method requires a little more time and organisation, it ensures you’re always getting the correct price for your flight.

According to Matt, there is another handy tip to secure the best flight prices – know your price.

Flight prices have a tendency to fluctuate and rarely stay at a fixed rate for any length of time.

“Therefore, explains Matt, “It’s important to know what you want to pay, not what you hope to pay. What’s the lowest price for you?”

Having a figure in mind as to the price you are willing to pay will make it easier to commit and book when prices are low enough for you.

This will also ensure you don’t miss out on deals whilst waiting for prices to drop that little bit further.
