And forecasters reckon the warm spring-like weather is here to stay until at least Thursday.

Met Office forecaster Charlie Powell said: “We’re going to see a bit of a west, east split today.

“The east is going to be cloudy, cold and damp whilst the west is going to have a pretty good day with 19C.

“The weather’s going to stay pretty settled for the next few days.

Temperatures will climb back up to 21C on Tuesday and Wednesday looks pretty good too.

“It will begin to feel cooler by Thursday before wind and blustery showers sweep across the country on Friday.”

Mr Powell added: “By the end of the week it’s going to feel a lot more autumnal.”

The unexpectedly pleasant weather came off the back of a Spanish warm front.

Heavy rain and strong winds will sweep east across the country on Wednesday night meaning Brits are likely to wake up to a damp Thursday morning.

However drier and brighter weather should follow on Friday before an unsettled weekend.

Yesterday skinny dippers cooled off in the sea at Druridge Bay in Northumberland as the sun rose on a glorious day across Britain.

Up to 400 turned out for the event to raise fund for mental health charity Mind – as the rest of the nation basked.
