According to Mundo Deportivo, Dortmund lead the race – Peter Bosz was the Ajax manager last season, and has a good relationship with De Ligt having handed him his debut last season.

But Barcelona are very keen on the teenager and want to use their excellent relationship with former player Marc Overmars, now technical secretary in Amsterdam, to help push through a move.

Premier League clubs are also said to be circling the defender, although no teams are named in the report.

Barca scouts have always been a fixture at the Amsterdam ArenA and have continued to keep a close eye on De Ligt.

Real Madrid are also keeping tabs on the teenager but Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund are leading the race.

De Ligt made his debut for the Oranje at just 17 years and 225 days, making him one of the youngest Dutch internationals ever.

Although he did not have a good game – he was at fault for the opening goal against Bulgaria and was subbed off at half-time.

But he has continued to be a regular in squads.

He made his Ajax debut in September 2016 – scoring in his first match, he became the second youngest goalscorer in club history, only behind football legend Clarence Seedorf.

De Ligt also started the Europa League final defeat to Manchester United last season.
