Astronauts make emergency touchdown after Russian Soyuz launch experiences failure

A NASA astronaut and Russian cosmonaut needed to make an emergency touchdown on Earth this morning, after the Russian Soyuz rocket carrying them into orbit skilled a failure throughout launch. The 2 crew members — astronaut Nick Hague and cosmonaut Alexey Ovchinin — safely landed on the bottom in Kazakhstan lower than an hour after liftoff and are in “good situation,” in response to NASA.

The crew took off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan at four:40AM ET. A couple of minutes after launch, Russia’s area company Roscosmos stated that there was an issue with the booster through the flight. The failure prompted the crew to make a ballistic reentry, when the Soyuz capsule enters Earth’s ambiance at a steeper angle than regular.
